Varanasi in 1956. He received his early musical training from the revered Pandit Bade Ramdas Ji and his father, the eminent sarangi maestro Pandit Hanuman Prasad Mishra Ji.

Through a musical partnership with his elder brother, Pandit Rajan Mishra, spanning more than five decades, the two earned immense acclaim in India and abroad under the name “Mishra Bandhu.” Pandit Sajan Mishra received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1998, the Gandharva National Award for 1994–95, the Padma Bhushan in 2007, and the National Tansen Samman for 2011–12.

Following the passing of Pandit Rajan Mishra in 2021, the responsibility of carrying forward this tradition is now shared by Pandit Sajan Mishra and his son and disciple, Swaransh Mishra. Representing a new generation of this exceptional musical legacy, Swaransh performs both in duet with his father and independently, and remains active at major music festivals across the country.

The combined singing of this father-son duo embodies the same profundity, refinement and devotional spirit for which the Banaras Gharana is revered throughout the world.
